Day 62 (Friday) - Deuteronomy 23:15-27:10
Here we have some great verses relating to justice. God commands his people to care for those that are poor or abandoned (widows and orphans). When you had a crop you were to leave some for those that “don’t have” could pick and eat. There was even a special tithe that would go to the under resourced in the community. Now I don’t mean to get overly political here but it really is too bad that we have a government structure that has taken away our personal responsibility to do justice and charity and made it a tax. It’s harder to help people. What happened to separation of church and state? Or I guess I’d have to ask what happened to the church that the government had to step in?

Government has gotten into things it shouldn't because Christians have not stepped up to the plate and taken care of people. It can be overwhelming sometimes and churches get burned - and don't understand the needs of people sometimes so they are happy to have it taken off their hands. But, we need to do a better job of taking care of people God has placed in our care. I'm glad to be a part of a body (well, almost) that is working on this :)
